A new Miss World Kenya was crowned on Saturday in front of a capacity crowd at Film Studios in Nairobi, Kenya.
The 20-year-old Mombasa-born student, Shamim Nabil, beat out the rest of the top ten finalists and took home the title of Miss World Kenya 2012, which will see her spearhead the founding aspect of the Miss World franchise – beauty with a purpose – and also see her compete in the forthcoming 62nd Miss World Final 2012 held in the cultural city, Ordos, China.
Aside from the coveted title of Miss World Kenya, Shamim Nabil also took home a cash prize of Sh 1 million among other rewards.
Terry Mungai, franchise director of Miss World Kenya and Ashley’s CEO, hopes to continue to grow the brand in Kenya and also transform the negative stereotypes of beauty pageants.
“This is the first time that we have the reigning Miss World and her continental counterparts, Europe and Caribbean, join us in Kenya. This is a cornerstone in Miss World Kenya’s history, and shows our dedication to continue to grow the franchise.”
Shamim Nabil during her reign as Miss World Kenya 2012 hopes to fight drug abuse and trafficking in the country through partnerships with government bodies and international organizations.
The 62nd Miss World Final 2012 will host 130 representatives from all over the world, competing for the crown on August 18th.
